Frequently Asked Questions

  • Together, you and I will explore aspects of your life such as family history, conflict styles, attachment styles, core beliefs, thought patterns, etc. to determine how you can help break any negative cycles you might be stuck in with your loved ones.

  • Any issues or concerns are welcome, though I do not have specific training in eating disorders, substance abuse, or couples therapy. If you struggle with one of these issues, it’s best to work with a clinician with specific training and certification is this area.

  • It depends on the issue(s) and diagnosis, but I aim to work with a client for 3-6 months and then when the client and I agree they’re functioning better, we meet less frequently or end therapy, whichever makes the most sense for the client.

  • I strongly recommend that we do weekly therapy sessions, as we’re building rapport and a therapeutic relationship. Once the client is beginning to feel better and needing less support, we often move to every 2 weeks, then once a month, then on an “as needed” basis.

  • I use a client-centered approach and like to meet a client where they are in the beginning stages of therapy. I take a family history and work on exploring existing strengths a client has (or has had in the past) that we can build on or awaken. I see us as a team working together, where we both bring a certain expertise to the table. The client brings their own experience and wisdom, and I bring my clinical experience and training to assist the client in developing their skills and celebrating their progress.

  • I started working in the mental health field 23 years ago, where I worked in a residential program for adolescent girls with severe trauma. I have also worked in psychiatric hospitals as a patient advocate, and worked as a behavioral aide doing ABA with children with autism. After I received my Masters degree in Clinical Psychology, I did school counseling with children ages 5-18, and also worked in a group practice where I first started seeing clients 13 years ago. I have worked with a wide range of clients and diagnoses and if I find that my client is not making progress working with me, I have no problem helping my client find a therapist for whom they might be a better fit.

  • During the first few sessions, we’ll be in the assessment phase, where I will be getting your mental health history, family history, and other important aspects of your life that are relevant to our work together. I will also assess your strengths and coping skills and introduce other coping tools that could be useful. We’ll explore how you currently navigate through difficult times and what you’d like to improve on in how you show up in the world, for your relationships, and for yourself.

  • We’ll work together for a few weeks, and if you feel like it’s not helping, we’ll discuss other options of support (such as a higher level of care, medication, a support group, a different therapist, etc). My priority is that you get the best treatment possible.
